Overview of the Dementia Grants Program
The New York State Dementia Grants Program has been awarding funds to nursing homes since 1988 to implement projects that aim to deliver better health and quality of life outcomes for nursing home residents living with dementia. The goal of the program is to develop best practices of dementia care through research and innovative programs that can be duplicated as a training tool or product for other nursing homes to utilize.
The program also sponsors an annual or biennial statewide dementia conference that showcases the best practices and training tools developed from the program for quality dementia care. The upcoming conference will be held at the Albany Marriott Monday June 16th and Tuesday June 17, 2008 titled Living Well with Dementia… Facing Challenges and Finding Solutions.
The current cycle of Dementia Grant projects are eager to present their findings at the 2008 conference, with the anticipation of introducing evidence-based best practices that can be replicated within the health care system across New York State.
